Leo Leer MD
Dr. Leer received his undergraduate degree in Zoology at UC Berkeley and attended Medical school at the University of Southern California. He then completed residency in Family Medicine at the San Pedro Hospital/Harbor UCLA medical Center. He is board certified in Family Medicine and Geriatrics.
Dr. Leer and his family moved to Humboldt County in 1992. He has been a member of Eureka Family Practice since 1994. In addition to his duties at EFP, Dr. Leer was a member of the North Coast AIDS Project Board of Directors through the 1990’s and briefly chaired the Board. He was also Chief of Staff at St. Joseph Hospital in 2004 and 2005. For the past 10 years he has been President and managing partner of Eureka Family Practice.
Dr. Leer’s wife, Nancy, teaches in the psychology department at Humboldt State University and in her spare time lovingly tends to her beautiful garden. Their daughter, Jane, grew up and left home much more quickly than her parents were prepared to accept!
When not working Dr. Leer can either be found bicycling, fly fishing, or eating.
Caroline Connor MD
Caroline began practicing in Humboldt County at Eureka Family Practice in 1996. She began her education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she majored in History. In 1988 she moved to the University of Florida where she obtained her Doctorate in Medicine and met her husband, Alan Fischel, who is a local anesthesiologist in Humboldt County as well. They moved to Tucson, Arizona where Dr. Connor did her residency in family medicine and her Master’s degree in Public Health. Since moving to Eureka in 1996 she has thoroughly enjoyed her practice of General Medicine and now specializes in the treatment of difficult headaches. Dr. Connor is available as a consultant to you and your family for the management of all types of headache disorders.
Gregory Holst MD
Dr. Holst received his medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1995, and completed his residency in Family Medicine in 1998. Before moving here to Eureka, he practiced for 9 years as one of the only 2 rural physicians the very small town of Holyoke, Colorado. While in Holyoke he experienced all areas of medicine including ER, OBGYN, inpatient care, nursing home and outpatient family medicine. He moved to Eureka and joined Eureka Family Practice in 2007. He is married with two children. He spends off time renovating his house, working on his 72 Chevy pickup, and summer lakeside camping with his family.
Steven Korenstein MD
Dr. Korenstein was born and raised in southern California where he completed an undergraduate degree in Environmental Biology and a Master's Degree in Environmental and Occupational Health at California State University, Northridge. Before entering the medical profession he served as an environmental health specialist for the Los Angeles Unified School District and as a staff scientist for the California Environmental Protection Agency where, along with his other duties, studied and published in the area of environmental exposures which cause lung disease. Dr. Korenstein obtained his medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine and completed residency in Family Medicine at Mercy Health Systems in Janesville Wisconsin. After finishing residency in 2012, Dr. Korenstein joined the faculty in the department of Family Medicine at Mercy (while preparing the move back to California to join the EFP team) and spent several months training new residents. He is married and spends most of his free time chasing his two children and his dog(sometimes the other way around.) He and his family enjoy traveling, hiking, camping, and most sports, though you may just find him in any local hammock. If so, leave him be, he is exhausted!
Alexey Shereshevsky MD
Born and raised in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, in a family of 3 generations of healers, Dr. Shev attended St. Petersburg Medical University in St. Petersburg, Russia. After graduation he returned to Kiev where he was trained in surgery. He then worked at the Ukranian National Medical University as well as private clinics as a general and colorectal surgeon. After immigration to the United States with wife Tatyana, who he met in medical school, and 6 yr old daughter Victoria he spent a few years in New York where he studied English and prepared for board certification and diploma evaluation. After 3 years of American surgical training he moved to Family Medicine. He worked as a Family Medicine doc for 7.5 years before moving to Eureka, CA to join his wife who is an OB-GYN at Redwood Women's Center in Fortuna. Their daughter Victoria is now a 3rd year medical student in West Virginia planning to continue the family dynasty of physicians. Beside the work he enjoys he likes traveling, hiking, recreational bike riding, water or downhill skiing, cooking, and music.
Robin Fraser PA-C
Robin Fraser joins EFP with an interest in working with patients to maximize their health. She holds a Master of Medical Science from Saint Francis University, and earned her PA-C through the Stanford School of Medicine Primary Care Associate Program. After originally earning a BA in Linguistics at Bryn Mawr College, Robin taught kindergarten in inner city Philadelphia and built houses with Habitat for Humanity through the Americorp program. She then got up the courage to venture abroad with the Peace Corps. Moving to Humboldt County in 2007, she developed an interest in medicine, a field she finds an exciting blend of science and heart. On her days off you may find her cooking or crafting at home, or outside hiking or biking.
